Amanda: Practice Makes Perfect

Amanda_cutTrial runs for my hairstyle, makeup and our centerpieces.

By Amanda Parker

This past week was like wedding preview week, which means it’s getting closer and it’s becoming very real.

First my mom, Adam and I went to Golden Gate Studios to look at our centerpieces. I admit that I’m a little bit of a control freak, so being able to see exactly what our centerpieces are going to look like was key. We were able to see an exact replica of what our tables would look like including the linens, flowers, etc. Jay from Golden Gate totally nailed everything I wanted and really captured my style. Another check mark on the list….

Then we went to Salon KG in Cranston to get a preview of what I will look like on the big day. The staff at the salon is fabulous. My mom, Maria (practically my second mom and veil maker) and I were greeted with some wine (mine in an adorable bridal glass!) — my type of place. First of all, this salon is absolutely adorable. It’s in the heart of Pawtuxet Village and is on the first floor of a beautiful old yellow Victorian house. The gardens in the back are phenomenal — truly picture perfect. I’m also picky when it comes to hair and makeup because in some ways I’m a very simple, classic person. Nothing funky and I certainly don’t like to be heavily made-up. Kristin, the owner and makeup artist, listened to everything I said carefully and did a perfect light natural look, which I loved. Marissa, up-do extraordinaire, looked at the pictures I showed her and did exactly what I wanted. I couldn’t be happier with the team at Salon KG. They will be coming over the house the morning of the wedding to do everyone’s hair and makeup. That was one of the most important things to me: The morning of the wedding I want total wedding chaos. I think it’s exciting and fun to have all your best friends there that morning all getting ready together and sipping some champagne.

I highly suggest that you go do a bridal trial with your hair and makeup team. It’s very important that you love the way you look on your wedding day. Already knowing what you’re going to look like will put you at ease on that day so you can just live in the moment and enjoy every minute.
