Amelia and Jonathan

Tell us about your day: We both became so overwhelmed soon after being engaged. There are SO many decisions! We both knew that we didn’t want a cookie cutter country club wedding. All of our friends are married so it was really tough to do something different but we knew we wanted to make it happen.
We both love the fall in New England so it was a natural choice to get married on our anniversary weekend (we were engaged the same weekend as well!). After making a guest list and a budget, we looked at a few places and quickly fell in love with Five Bridge Inn. The innkeeper, Ann Messenger, is absolutely amazing. She helped us through the entire process.

We really wanted to make the wedding about us. We chose our colors – orange, silver, royal blue – because it represented the colors of our alma maters (I went to Syracuse and my husband went to the University of Rhode Island and Tufts University for grad school). We contacted the MBTA system to get some artwork in order to create the Charlie Cards that served as our name cards, since we met in Boston. We designed the centerpieces and chose table names of all the important places in our lives. We created the Suger Table and had a S’more station because we simply don’t love wedding cake! The Pressure’s Off made the most amazing cupcakes which were all of our favorite kinds. We really wanted our greeting and card table to tell the story of us; The Sugermans established 2013 sign was given to us as our first engagement gift.

The artwork on the table came as a result of asking our guests to doodle, draw, write something on the back of their response cards. Our chuppa was made entirely by my husband and his father, decorated with flowers from Rosebud and incorporated pictures of our grandparents who are no longer living so that we could feel them with us that day.

We absolutely wanted to incorporate so many of our friends and family into the day. Our bridal party also included my three cousins who were my sign holders and ring bearer. We had a lifetime family friend officiant for the day and incorporated both Jewish and Catholic traditions into our wedding – Catholic readings, chuppa and breaking the glass. Instead of having the DJ announce us, we asked the friend who introduced us to officially introduce us (again) for the first time.

My shoes were orange because it’s downright my favorite color and even though everyone said I was crazy, I didn’t care, because I wanted orange shoes. 🙂 I tried on so many dresses and found mine when my sister (and matron of honor) recommended that I try something different. The entire day was what we wanted and we’re so thrilled with how it turned out!
