5 Reasons to Attend Cocktails, Veils & Tails
Other than the fact that you’re recently engaged and desperately trying to figure out what comes next, we guarantee this wedding event in particular will be worth skipping your regularly scheduled date with Grey’s Anatomy / Scandal / How to Get Away with Murder and a glass of Merlot on the night of November 16th. See below for the top five reasons why you should set your DVR instead.

1. The Crowd
Full disclosure, this is really a two part-er.
For starters, this boutique-style wedding show is being put on by the Rhode Island Wedding Group, an association of established wedding professionals that are dedicated to connecting local couples with local, high quality service providers. The group limits their membership to only two companies per specialty, offering a well-rounded but not too overwhelming resource for recently engaged couples who are looking to simplify the planning process without sacrificing quality. The members are more than familiar with each other’s work and often work collaboratively to ensure that their clients’ weddings are the cream of the crop.
And this ain’t RIWG’s first rodeo: The team often creates and put on events like these to make the vendor search as convenient and seamless as possible.
“I always encourage couples to attend any show; it’s the best opportunity for them to meet with several professionals in just a few hours,” says Debbie Cormier of Arpeggio Wedding Entertainment, one of RIWG’s highly esteemed members. “Think about how much time it would take to set up appointments with all of the pros you want meet with, and then having to drive and meet with each.”
This event allows you to browse their preeminent inventory pieces and services and, even better, chat directly with the individual companies’ owners, managers, designers, stylists, etc., all in one night. Nowadays it may seem like everyone in your life and their mother (especially the mothers) has unsolicited advice for you, but these are the people you’ll actually want to beseech words of wisdom from. They’ve seen and experienced it all, so get the questions in while you still can!

Secondly, if your spouse-to-be is uninterested in attending and/or your maid of honor is still ring-less and therefore more sympathetic than empathetic to your plight, this is your chance to commiserate slash celebrate with others who are all aboard the wedding planning struggle bus. Trust us, there’s nothing better than venting about the hassles of seating charts and pushy relatives with someone else who just gets it.
2. The Location
Honestly, it just makes sense to host a Rhode Island vendor-heavy wedding expo in the state’s top wedding destination — and at a venue with some of the best views the City by the Sea has to offer. Gurney’s Newport Resort & Spa is situated right on picturesque Goat Island surrounded by the serene Narragansett Bay. You may recognize the location as the former Hyatt Regency, but the locale has been entirely renovated; it now positively exudes upscale seaside charm complete with exceptional amenities. Plus, the event doesn’t kick off until 6:30 p.m., meaning the Newport Bridge’s shimmering lights will serve as a perfect backdrop to the night’s cocktail party vibe.
3. The Refreshments
You had to know this one was coming… ‘Cocktails’ is in the name of the event after all! Everyone in attendance will receive a free glass of champagne upon entry (bring on the bubbly) and a full service bar will be, well, at your service throughout the expo.
4. The Swag
In addition to learning about great ideas for planning your perfect wedding, you will also have the opportunity to win amazing prizes, priced at more than $5,000. Every ticket you purchase in advance gets you one free entry to the grand prize for a Couple’s Getaway. A majority of RIWG’s members are donating wedding services, gift baskets and products that you will be able to bid on during the event’s special silent auction (a sneak peek: Arpeggio let slip that they will be offering $200 off a DJ package as well as a free custom Snapchat geofilter!)
5. The Price
Now, you’re probably thinking, “Ah, here comes the catch.” But there really isn’t one: Tickets are only 10$ online. Yes, you read right. Now, please refer back to the four reasons above. We hope everyone realizes the insane bargain potential here (If not, I can recap: that’s more than twenty-five prospective consultations and thousands of dollars in potential prizes for just ten bucks). Also, parking is F-R-E-E.
Okay so maybe there’s one tiny catch: Space is limited and tickets are selling fast! So go ahead and grab yours here.
Additional perk: We’ll be there.
Rhode Island Monthly’s Engaged will have its very own table where we will be handing out (free!) issues of our 2017 edition of our Engaged Magazine, which is filled with even more helpful tips and local vendor and venue inspiration. Stop by to grab your free copy and say hi!
