Aisle Say: Meet Erika

Erika Lynde Mcdonough. Erika Lynde Mcdonough. I’m starting to like the way it sounds.

I’ve had this ring on my finger for five years now and have never felt the urge to get married till now. Liam proposed in 2009 just after having our daughter, Myla, in June. Although madly in love, I was never one of those dream-about-your-wedding-day kind of girls. But something washed over me this year after having our second child. A close relative asked, “Are you two ever getting married?”

I felt like a deer in headlights. I had forgotten that we weren’t already married. Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess, and we’ve been playing house for the past five years. Now it’s time: Time for me to step up to the plate and start making plans to marry the love of my life.

Liam and I met in art school, so we are anything but traditional. As a painter, I need this wedding to be visually spectacular — stimulating, if you will. And Liam, he’s got music running through his veins, so sound quality and the perfect music make up his dream wedding. Last is food: We love to cook and eat (seriously, it’s our favorite pastime). Finding a place to make all this happen on a budget of young parents is going to be difficult, but not impossible. I’m an overly optimistic person and believe in Pinterest with all my heart. I’m so excited for the planning and everything that comes with it. I’m welcoming the sweat, blood and tears with open arms. I’m ready!
