Erika: Getting My Butt Back In Gear

Halloween candy and moving were bad for my fitness routine.

By Erika Lynde

Went for a dress fitting this week. It was big slap in the face when we had a hard time zipping it up. It’s a very unhappy feeling when the dress of your dreams is too snug due to your bad habits and Halloween candy. (Yes, I’m blaming the candy companies for making chocolate so delicious and addictive.)

37 Sweating shirtSince we moved to the new house the workout routine I had so perfectly constructed is — for lack of a better word — nonexistent. My favorite yoga studio is now a forty-minute drive, and my Gold’s Gym membership has expired. And, to be honest, it hasn’t been my first priority…till now. So, I’m kicking my butt back into gear with a revved-up bridal fitness routine.

Terry, my seamstress/tailor, is doing such an immaculate job on my dress. I must do it justice by loosing the few pounds I’ve packed on in the last two months. We all know I have a small Pinterest addiction, but it had everything I needed when this problem arose out of the blue. I found a lot of workouts perfect for brides and even some inspirational workout gear. An adorable sweater is on its way to my home as I type, letting everyone know I’m sweating for my wedding. Super cute!

Now that motivation is in place, I needed to fix the bigger problem here: food! I’m sure any of you brides-to-be out there who are also moms know how hard it is to eat well between the numerous meals young children require for their growing bodies and the number of calories they require to maintain their energy. Healthy is not a problem in our home since we shop mostly organic and local, but my kids feel that mom must try everything. (And come on — who can say no to a nice bowl of goldfish?) This is my story…snacking must go!

I’m trying to keep things positive by giving myself a few cheat days here and there and by not depriving myself of the occasional glass of wine or holiday cookie. But, man, the next six weeks are going to be hard! Wish me luck, girls, and take a look at some the fun workouts I’ve found helpful.
