Tell us how you met:

Our story began on an overcast, muggy day in August of 2012. As sweat dripped down my forehead, I began to wonder why I agreed to help my sister get ready for her party. I only half listened to her list the names of people who would be there because I was relentlessly scrubbing at a stubborn smudge on the window. Two hours later, Erik walked in and I immediately wished I had spent less time prepping the house and more time prepping myself. Erik bought everyone dinner, and later insisted I play on his beer pong team– to my initial dismay because I couldn’t hit a single cup. Even though my atrocious beer pong skills made me want to sink into the floor and become invisible, that night turned out to be one of the most significant nights of my existence because I met the love of my life. Every day he has continued to push me out of my comfort zone, just like the first day I met him, and encouraged me to do things I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing on my own.

Tell us your proposal story:

After having already taken my heels off and throwing my hair in a messy pony, I naively posed for a picture in front of a water fountain at Foxwoods. I was having an amazing birthday night out, so I thought everyone in my family was just taking pictures to document the occasion. But I was not the main focus of their smart-phone lenses. Erik was in the picture with me, but as I was looking at the cameras, I hadn’t noticed until it got really quiet what was actually happening – he was on one knee! Now my memory of everything that occurred after this is fuzzy because time stopped and I had a million thoughts, a few of which were: “Is this really happening?”, “Look at that gorgeous ring!” and “Don’t cry in front of all these people, your mascara will run!” But mainly I was so ecstatic that nothing else in that moment mattered. Erik says he made a mistake in the proposal and forgot to say my last name like he intended to – so he had to repeat my name – but I honestly did not catch this. When you look and see your best friend and the love of your life on one knee holding out a ring, it’s hard to notice anything else! We cried and we laughed and celebrated the rest of the night because on that same day, I found out I was going to be an Auntie for the first time too, so as far as days come, they don’t get more amazing than that! 🙂
