Justine and Kaila

Justine and Kaila of Providence are set to exchange “I do’s” at Providence City Hall followed by a reception at The Dorrance on May 18, 2019.

How We Met

Kaila and I both met back in 2005 on the URI Yearbook group. We quickly became friends but did not officially start dating until 2009. We have since lived in Boston, but felt our connection to Rhode Island was so strong that we moved back to call Rhode Island our home in 2013!

Our Proposal Story

I dragged Kaila out on an early Saturday morning in October to get coffee at Small Point Cafe in downcity Providence. We also wanted to grab a donut at Knead so I instructed her to drop me off at Small Point and while I was there, she could drive down to Knead and pick up some donuts. When she dropped me off, I very quickly installed a “street sign” on a street post that was designed to look just like the street signs in Downcity. It read “Engagement District” on top and the main part read “Will You Marry Me?”
I told her to come join me outside Small Point and she found me under the sign and I was waiting for her with a shiny ring! There were people outside and they started congratulated us! Also, as we were standing outside basking in the glory of being newly engaged, a group of people were passing by and asked us if we just got engaged. We answered yes and were so happy for us they high-fived us all around! They were also happy because they indicated they were in town on that day because their daughter was getting married to their partner! They expressed they were so happy to see Providence as a vibrant and open minded city and have so many happy couples. They even took pictures of us, even though they were complete strangers!
